I’m Charlotte, I’m the floral designer behind Charlotte’s floral design. I am a true country girl at heart and have a passion for the outdoors. I am currently learning to grow my own flowers as part of the business alongside my other outdoor loves, horse riding, hiking and chicken keeping. I have worked in the wedding and flower industry for 5 years and designed flowers for over 60 weddings in and around Yorkshire. I focus on sustainability and British, locally grown produce.

I started after changing my career from Veterinary nursing, I wanted to do something creative and really enjoyed the serenity of designing the flower arrangements as well as working outside growing and picking the flowers. It is nice to work with something beautiful that nature produces. I believe working with nature is great for your mental health and especially working with the seasons, hibernating and relaxing more in the winter months and then being busy and active in the summer. I gravitated towards the wedding industry because weddings are happy and exciting occasions, couples are really invested in the flowers as part of their day and it’s really great to be surrounded by these vibes.

My style is very wild and natural, think English country garden mixed with wild meadows. My designs are inspired by nature and use all British grown flowers and foliage so they are a true reflection of the seasons. I love colour and have an eye for designing with it, so you will see lots of colour in my work. I would say my designs are joyful.

I love being outside and seeing the flowers grow, cheesy I know, and choosing which ones to pick and then I love creating something with what nature has given me, rather than knowing exactly what flowers I’m getting. When you think about how special someone’s wedding day is and how unique it is, I like to think the flower designs are as unique and specific to that couple and their wedding day. I also love the moment of presenting the bridal bouquet, it’s a nerve wrecking moment but when they smile or cry with joy it’s a great feeling. Finally I love seeing the photos of the wedding afterwards, because the flowers look ace but also I don’t get to see most of the wedding as a florist I’m setting up before it all starts so it’s nice to see the day in photos esp when you’ve been working on it for such a long time.

From all my feedback couples have loved the way I understand what they are looking for and bringing their ideas to life. As well as loving the actual designs. I am also very friendly, down to earth and open about the whole design, booking process and cost.

A memorable wedding for me was a July 2025 wedding, the venue changed with only a few months notice after the original venue closed, on the week of the wedding it was 28 degrees and the replacement venue was a Marquee. So as you can imagine I was worried about the flowers wilting in the heat, I did all I could to make sure the flowers were well hydrated and set up as late as possible to make sure they stayed as fresh, in the end it all went well. The Bride’s family owned a plant nursery so they were very understanding of this, I really loved/felt honoured that being plant people that they chose me as their florist. They loved that I used local British flowers & my sustainability values. The Bride’s grandfather used to be a Dahlia grower, and although July is normally a little early for Dahlias, I was able to get one for the bridal bouquet and she was over the moon, it meant to alot to the family and I loved being able to do this. This was very memorable.

Florists just play with flowers, the flowers arrive and you arrange them. Unfortunately not, there is a huge amount of preparation in ordering/picking the flowers beforehand, designing around the season, then all the physical preparation that goes into getting the flowers ready before you can design with them.

(not quite about the role but about flowers in general) Seasonal flowers- because we can import flowers from all over the world and have them whenever we want, people have lost touch of what is in season when. People should expect different flowers at different times of year.

Choose what you like, don’t worry about the trends or what someone else wants. It’s your day and you want to love it as much as you love each other right? With regards to flowers, don’t worry about specific flowers, look more at the colours and style you like and choose your florist on these. If you love their style you’ll love what they will create for you.

I like to keep in touch with other wedding suppliers, share ideas, talk and show pictures of things we love. I also love geeking out on flowers with my flower growers, this really helps. Having supportive family and friends also helps. I think having separate hobbies and interests that separate you from work is key to not getting overwhelmed or bored.
